About to do a driveline replacement on my '17 Ranger XP and wanted to get ahead of any common pitfalls. the U joints are shot and there's some play in the mid shaft, so I figured it's time to freshen up the whole setup. need tips on alignment, grease points, or parts , just need insights basically before I dive in

I don't know if I can be of much help on this sorry :/ Not really sure but I'm just gonna suggest you MARK EVERYTHING really carefully before the removal so you can make sure nothing gets effed up when you reassemble.

I agree with this. I know some people like to DIY above was actually a good tip! but for me, i'm a chicken and forgetful so I'll take it to a mechanic

Just ensure getting those U-joints lined up just right is super important so you don't get any shaky vibrations and if you're going to use grease, make sure you're using a good quality marine-grade or off-road grease. it'll make a big difference in the long run! otherwise, if you're not comfortable in doing this, just take it to a mechanic like me and @hi-cruiser78

good luck!

Good call doing the whole driveline while you're at it. Before you take anything apart, mark how it all lines up like @frozenyogurt says, its to make reinstall easier. Replace any worn parts like the carrier bearing and grease all the u-joints and splines well. Make sure the shafts are phased right to avoid vibrations, and tighten bolts to spec with some threadlocker. Putting the Ranger in neutral helps when lining everything up.
