Finding the right front diff for my buddy's Ranger

My buddy got the same Ranger like mine, but his front diff's output cover is busted, and it let a bunch of nasty mud get inside and totally mess everything up.

To fix it, he's looking at dropping almost $700 just for the parts!

I wanted to help and found a used front diff on eBay that looks pretty decent.

The seals seem good, and all that. It'd probably be a better starting point if he needed to rebuild it anyway.

Now, here's the head-scratcher: he just found out from Partzilla that the part number for his diff cover is 1333066, and the used diff on eBay I found has the number 1333067.

My biggest worry is ensuring the splines connecting to the axles and driveshaft are the right match.

It feels like my machine is a bit of a weirdo compared to most others out there, so I don't want to buy something that won't even fit.

The part 1333066 and 1333067 are often interchangeable for Polaris Rangers but its smart to doublecheck spline compatibility. Have you confirmed the axle and driveshaft specs match up? Better to measure twice and buy once!

They are interchangeable, so you shouldn't have a problem with that. But i think you might wanna inspect the diff before buying. You should at least check the sprague carrier or bearings before the installation and replace them if they're not in a good shape

I agree with this. even though they're interchangeasble, it's best to double or even triple check before buying or installing it

That sounds like a good deal. Those two part numbers usually work togethre, but make sure to check the spline count and gear ratio just to be safe. If the eBay diff looks good and has decent seals, it's a smarter choice than spendin $700 on parts. I'd go for it if the specs match

Sometimes a part number difference is minor, but other times it means totally different specs, so better safe than stuck with something that doesnt fit..
