Issue on 2020 Crew 1000XP

My neighbor got this 2020 Crew 1000XP tranny, and it has reverse chain busted, input shaft messed up the case. The rest seems okay.
I want to help him, can I just swap in a new input shaft/gears and a better reverse chain?

Or am I stuck with the same old weak OEM chain 'cause my 2020's the only one that uses it?
What's the best way forward? Wanna drop some cash on stronger parts instead of just buying another stock tranny that'll probably kick the bucket again.

So, what do you guys think?

Yep, you can definitely replace just the input shaft, gears, and reverse chain if the other internals are still good. :) For the 2020 Crew 1000XP I'm pretty sure they use a different reverse chain setup than the newer models so it's quite weaker.
 
Have you looked into aftermarket reverse chains or upgraded input shafts, or are you mainly focused on finding something that'll fit without modifying the whole setup?
 
One concern is that if the case is already damaged from the input shaft failure, even with stronger parts, you might still be dealing with alignment or sealing issues

Make sure to double-check compatibility! You'll need to cross-reference part numbers for the reverse chain and for whatever upgrade you're getting. And I agree with @Wholee, the case damage is the bigger issue. Severe damage might call for a case replacement!
 
I completely agree, it's definitely worth double-checking those part numbers just to be safe. And yes, case damage is a big worry here. If it's really bad, getting a replacement could be the only reliable solution.
 
Sounds like a serious upgrade to me. you might be able to swap in upgraded parts depending on the case damage. have you checked if the case is salvageable or is it cracked beyond repair?
 
Last year, I lent a hand to a friend who was trying to fix his broken XP1000 transmission, turns out the input shaft had damaged the case, much like the one we're looking at. We started searching for upgrades, but it quickly became clear that the cracked case couldn't be salvaged for a proper seal. In the end, we picked up a used housing and installed a heavy-duty chain along with an upgraded shaft. It's running smoothly now, but definitely take a good look at that case before investing in any internal parts.
 
Great tip. Cracked cases really drain your wallet with unnecessary internal upgrades since they just won't seal right. It's smarter to find a quality used housing first, and then invest in heavy-duty internals for better reliability.
