hi all! I recently got this weird noise on my Ranger like something stuck and scraping when I drive. The noise goes away when I hit the brakes though..
not sure what's going on but it's realy bothering. anyone have a clue?

Maybe the brake pad is stuck? Or there probably is something stuck between the rotor and shield so try checking behind the wheel. That's all I can think of right now tho.

Yeah, it could be a small stone or debris that's stuck between the brake rotor and dust shield like @frozenyogurt said. If it's not that, it could be a worn brake pad indicator touching the rotor or just the thickness of your brake pads. Either way, if it concerns your brake, don't delay fixing it!

That scraping noise that disappears when you brake is most likely caused by a stuck caliper, or debris (like a small rock) caught in between the rotor and pad. Since the sound stops when braking, its probably brake related rather than drivetrain or suspension.

It might be a rock stuck between the rotor and the dust shield, or it could be that your pad wear indicators are getting low. I had the same issue before,it would make a scraping sound when I rolled but was quiet when I braked.Just take a quick look behind the wheel to see if that's the problem

Worn brake pads or a stuck brake caliper. Its best to check the brakes and rotor for damage or debris like everyone else said. Getting it inspected soon can prevent bigger issues

Sure enough, I experienced something similar last fall. Turns out, I had a tiny pebble stuck in the dust shield, and it drove me crazy for days before I finally noticed it. A quick peek behind the wheel took care of the issue
